The creation of this hybrid is a tedious task that involves pollinating the female flowers of a Pindo palm (Butia ordorata) with the pollen for a Queen palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana). The result is a superior cold hardy palm that has a tropical look without the sticky seed mess created when the palm matures.  Give this palm plenty of room to grow.  Cold tolerance is into the mid teens, with these trees growing happily as far north into the Carolinas on the east coast and Seattle on the west coast.

Smaller plants pictured are representative of the plant you are purchasing.  Note the size of the plants varies, and the plant you receive could be slightly larger or smaller than the ones pictured.

Large plants pictured are representative of older and mature specimens that are growing in my collection.

These will ship in the container they are growing in.  Due to my work schedule, I typically ship on Monday morning.

Description as taken from the interwebs:

The palm is named for French horticulturist Paul Nabonnand (1860-1937), who first coaxed the palms to mate. The mule palm hybrid shows amazing vigor comparable to syagrus and will eventually reach 18' in height. Palm growers who have tried these report surprisingly good winter hardiness, often similar to the butia parent. The foliage of mule palms in the garden are said to be burned back at 15 degrees F, but they survive and grow back well. Seed produced by the hybrid is sterile unless able to backcross to one of the parents. Some recommend growing the mule palms to a larger size before trying them in the ground.
