VTG mid 1960s Blue Shadow-Striped Sharkskin Suit by Botany 500 (42 Reg.) Mod Mad Men Retro VLV

This eye-catching mod suit is the perfect suit for a 1960s look.  The material is a shadow-striped sharkskin cloth. The cut of the jacket is British with moderately padded shoulders, peaked lapels, and double rear vents.  The pants have a flat front, no belt loops with button adjusters, and cuffed bottoms which are slightly tapered. 

Botany 500 was a well-established men's label and catered to celebrities like Dick Van Dyke and Rod Serling.

Condition: Excellent / Very Good Condition. No stains. Only lightly used. One very small flaw in the pants near the rear pocket and two at the seam and waistband (probably from alteration). The flaws are very small and hardly noticeable. A hanger mark is visible on the pants but should disappear after wearing. The zipper is a little stiff but functions well. Pants are very nicely pressed and jacket appears to be nearly flawless. Very well-preserved. From a smoke-free home.

Union Made in U.S.A. (union label is 1961-1975 series)

Marked: 44 Reg but measures to a 42 Reg.  The trousers are adjustable from 36" to 37" W  and 29" L ( with a 1.5" cuff and a 1.25" hem)

Jacket:

Chest (arm pit to arm pit): 23" double is 46" the normal deduction is 4"  making it a 42

Waist (across top /middle button): 22.25"

Sleeve (from shoulder edge seam to cuff): 25.5"         with a hem of 2"  

Shoulder (back seam to seam): 18.5"

Length (from bottom of back collar to hem): 29.25"

Pants:

Waist:  18 - 18.5"  double is 36" - 37"   (with about 2.25" to let out)

Rise: 12.5"

Zipper: 9.5"

Length (inseam): 29" with a 1.5" cuff and 1.25" hem

Total length (from waist to cuff): 40.75"

Bottom opening: 8.5"

A note on grading: 

Mint: Perfect; like brand new

Excellent: Looks nearly perfect; no visible flaws; almost new condition

Very Good: Only a few minor flaws which are not visible or have no effect on the look of the garment

Good: Multiple minor flaws, but may not be very noticeable, the garment is still wearable, but may need minor repair

A few words on sizing:  Since many suits aren't marked, I go by measurements to determine size.  Also be aware that sometimes a suit is marked, but it doesn't match the measurements. If you aren't sure of your size or the size of your own well-fitting jacket, there are a lot of guides on the internet to help you measure yourself and your jackets.  I use "askandyaboutclothes" "how to measure a men's suit jacket" as the basis for my measurements. I’m not affiliated with this guide, it just is the most user-friendly. Please take a little time to check your measurements, before you invest in a suit.
