Description

– Wmore Pictures see below! –

You are bidding on one typescript with Copies of letters from 1930 to 1940 out of Odenkirchen (today part of Mönchengladbach).

Very beautifully written letters, much about Philosophy, religion and the art of right living, about men like Albert Schweitzer, art, and also (disapprovingly) about politics (he hopes for more liberal times to come).

Written by an unnamed author, who does office work in the textile industry. He volunteers at the church. His wife is very ill; she dies in 1933 or 1934 (in the letter dated 30. July 1933 he mentions her serious illness; in the next letter dated 26. September 1934 he thanks for expressions of condolence).

Addressed to the "editor" Johannes Wittig in Berlin-Frohnau, who wrote the foreword in August 1945: "The author of these letters is one of those people who, beyond the order of their civil existence, were always uneasy about the state of life and the world. [...] and may they [the letters] also get into the hands of searching people who need inner help and who can find some additional information here that can serve their inner development."

Johannes Wittig often sends the author poems, about which he then writes his opinion.

The author also writes poems and sayings; it also quotes one (he sent it in for the "Book Week" competition):
"I wanted the biggest. It is written in the most beautiful lines of the books: The greatest thing is the love for the people and for the brothers. In this love, I grew with the book."

Dated Odenkirchen, 24. September 1930 to 8. May 1940.

Scope: 147 leaves written on one side. (typescript carbon copy) in A4 format.

Bound in a "Baschaga portfolio".

Condition: Paper slightly browned, first few pages stained. BPlease note also the pictures at the end of the item description!
