Here is a beautiful vintage lp album from the dawn of rock & roll offered up for sale: Buddy Holly "That'll be the Day". One of only three albums by Buddy that was released during his lifetime. This second pressing of this RARE album was released in 1961
on Decca records DL-8707.
Decca records, after having the foresight to invite Buddy to record in Nashville in 1956 decided to fire the young singer / songwriter after only releasing handful of tracks on singles! Most artists might have gone back to the farm and gave up a musical career but Buddy was undeterred by the label's rejection. He was soon to find Norman Petty and his studio in New Mexico and the rest is history! The title track is a rare little heard version of "That'll be the Day" which is NOT the hit single version recorded at Petty studios but great none the less! Buddy also sings "his friend Sonny (I fought the law) Curtis's "Rock around with Ollie Vee",plus the beautiful "Blue days black nights" and many more rare gems! Buddy plays and sings them with fervor!! Released before Holly's early death in 1958, this 1961 pressing has been finely preserved and rates EX / EX. A beautiful addition to your classic rock record collection!
The vinyl rates EX to near MINT, absolutely stunning! super glossy and clean! They just don't come much nicer than this! Plays excellent from start to finish!
The vintage cover rates easy VG+/EX to EX , has great front cover with NO ring wear, no signatures, no bent corners. Clean white back cover! A small portion of slick on front cover in bottom center has some wear. Upper seam with printed edge EX and readable! Binder edge nearly perfect. Bottom seam neatly repaired with clear tape (very unnoticeable!) Has Decca printed baggy inner sleeve. Fantastic early rock n' roll gem well preserved for 63 years!! (see all pics)
