Large antique Georgian country house bureau in oak, with pine bases to the drawers.  4 graduated drawers at the bottom and a flap drops down to reveal the writing surface.  Beautiful inside with 6 drawers, 8 arched compartments and a central door which still has its key!!

A few issues as you would expect from a 250 year old piece of furniture - the top of the drop down door is nibbled all along the top probably from forcing it open when they lost the key!!  The outside key is DECORATIVE ONLY so that you can pull it open.  I felt this was better than adding a knob.  Replacement hinges to the drop down flap.

The handles are all old but are probably Victorian and not original to the piece.  Some drawer bases and sides have been replaced, other drawers have splits in the bases.  Evidence of  old wood worm to the back plus a hole at the bottom.  Ink spatters, knocks and nibbles as you would expect.

Having said all that - this is a great looking, very solid and useable desk with a lovely, rich patina - full of character.

You are welcome to collect in person from Beverley, East Yorkshire or I can send by courier to most parts of mainland UK for £75
