VW Golf Clipper Cabriolet Mk1 Project

This is a clean, genuine example of a Mk1 Golf (it even has the genuine number plates and dealer stamps on the mud guards)!

It is being sold as a project due to it being stored up in a garage for approximately 20 years by the previous owner so requires some attention before being driven on the roads.

The history of the car isn't clear as the previous owner had passed away when I purchased the car and the family were unsure how long the car had been garaged for. From the documents I have I can see that the previous owner bought the car in 1999 from VW Vindis. There are invoices for the servicing being done in 2000 at VW Vindis and then in 2001 at a local garage, but unfortunately I don't have a servicing book present. There is a document which shows the vehicle was SORN in 2003 and I am guessing that it has been off the road since then as there are no further documents after this date.

I have owned it for 2 years and had the intention of getting it back on the road but lack of time has got in the way. I haven't had a thorough look over the car or done anything mechanically to it myself so I am unable to say what it does require to get it back on the road.

The car does run, I have only had it running on my driveway a few times and have noticed the engine tick over is high on idle and there does look to be a coolant leak from the radiator area. The temp gauge went hot once but it was switched off as soon as it did but I can only assume that this is related to the coolant leak.

Year: 1991
Engine: 1781cc petrol
Mileage: 86,254

The car comes with quite a few standard extras including an immobiliser, central locking, electric windows and electric roof which all worked the last time I tried them.

The exterior of the car is pretty good for it's age, but has age related marks and the odd bit of surface rust in a few areas. It really does have a solid body with no signs of rot. The roof is in very good condition.

The interior is immaculate as you can see from the photos!

This car will really be a head turner once it is back on the road, it will honestly be a shame to see it go.

The car will need to be trailered away.

Sold as seen.

I politely request that the winning bidder gets in contact within 24 hours of the auction ending to discuss and arrange a collection date.

I will try to reply to messages as promptly as possible.
