Hukin & Heath, Dr. Christopher Dresser Designed, Silver Plated 'JAPANESE BOWL: No. 2226' Circa 1885

The bowl measures 15cm across the handles & 14cm across the lid. The base measures 7.5cm in diameter and it is 6cm from the base to the top of the handle.

Bought in a house clearance sale, the piece has clearly been "through the wars". If the few dent's in the lid rim were knocked out and one of the handles bent back to the upright to match its neighbour, however, it would would solve the shape issues that it now suffers from. Cleaning, re-plating then polishing the piece would subsequently have the potential - if desired - to restore the piece to its original state.

This single piece appears to encapsulate the main Aesthetic Movement, Anglo-Japanese and British Art Nouveau styles that Dr. Christopher Dresser has been associated with.
