Here is an early 1920s composition baby doll by Horsman. The doll is marked on the back of the neck with the letter H copyright symbol and the letter C.  The H.C doll measures 18" long with a composition, head, arms and legs with cloth, cotton, stuffed body and non-working crier in the back.  The doll has blue working tin sleep eyes with  remnants of eyelashes still on the right eye. The doll has painted lower lashes, with red painted lips and felt tongue. The doll has molded blonde hair with some color wear on the top in spots and an indent in the composition right in the middle of the back molded curls (see picture).  The composition on the face has a little bit of wear on the right cheek, but for the most part is truly in remarkable condition for its age. The arms have some marks that could use some cleaning and a tiny hole in the composition between the thumb and pointer finger on the left hand.  The fingers are in good condition with coloring on each fingernail.  The legs are in pretty good condition with some wear here and there and fine lines.  The left toe has a little bit of damage to the tip with coloring on each of the toenails.  You will also notice on the cloth body there is some dark staining (see picture). The doll is wearing a modern white satin lace trimmed covering with matching bonnet.  Underneath is an older antique white cotton slip with lace trim, but it has staining on it. The doll comes from a smoke-free home and is in pretty good condition for its age.  The doll will make an excellent addition to your collection. Please let me know if you have any questions.
