Islamic: silver Arab-Sasanian Drachm. Ubayd Allah b. Abi AH80 (699AD) Album 37

A  pre-Reform silver drachm from the time of the Umayyad Caliphate. A very bold strike, but unfortunately the coin has broken into 2 pieces. Even so, it is still a very attractive example of this very rare and valuable coin, with all text clearly readable. I am selling it relatively cheap "as is" in broken state.

This coin comes ex Leu Auction 17, lot 3370 (08/2021), with the following description:

ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Dirham (Silver, 31 mm, 4.00 g, 2 h), Arab Sasanian type, citing Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakra (AH 79-80 = AD 698-699), SK (Sistan), AH 80 = AD 699. Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, AWBYTALA / Y-ABWB(A)KRAN' (in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah') and 'Rabbi' ('my Lord') in Kufic. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons flanked by two attendants; in upper field to left, six-pointed star; in upper field to right, crescent; to left, date in Pahlawi; to right, SK (name of the mint in Pahlawi). Album 37. SICA I, 370. A very attractive example. Extremely fine.
