The merchants Wilhelm Hirsch (1848-1916) and Rudolf Apfelthaller (*1856) found the company “First Upper Austrian fruit wine press Apfelthaller & Co.”


 

About this company: "In 1892/93 a fruit wine press was founded, which was previously located on the main square and was owned by Hermann Hofmann, the son of Franz Hofmann. In 1893 this company was founded by Wilhelm Hirsch and Rudolf Apfelthaller accepted. Commercial court entry that was deleted in 1897." (Source: Michael John: From general store to department store. About Wilhelm Hirsch and Rudolf Apfelthaller:

 

Wilhelm Hirsch (born 11. February 1848 in Königswart, died. 24. October 1916 in Vienna), owner of a manufactured goods conversion in Vienna; Shareholder of the combined companies Franz Hofmann and Kraus & Schober in Linz (first modern department store in Linz!), board of directors of Union-Bank, board of directors of Österreichischer Lloyd and Veitscher Magnesitwerke AG. His wife Josefine, b. Hofmann (d. 1922) was a daughter of the merchant Franz Hofmann (1820-1889). 1. July 1893: Founding of the "1. Upper Austrian fruit winery Apfelthaller & Co." in Linz, together with Wilhelm Hirsch. They took over the winery from Hermann Hofmann, the son of Franz Hofmann. In 1897 the company was dissolved.
