Description
Large antique 19th century hand carved wood Corpus Christi crucifix, monastery, chapel or church altar piece. Striking and beautiful, exhibiting such superb quality craftsmanship. The corpus sculpture is realistically rendered with a defined musculature and detailed features, well defined hands and feet. The crown of thorns is also intricately carved and is removable. Accompanied by attributes, including the INRI plaque, skull and cross bones and inlaid scene of Angus Dei Paschal Lamb of God on the Book of Seven Seals (from the Bible's Book of Revelation). Total height is 30 5/8" x 12 5/8" wide across. The finely carved corpus of Christ measures 12" height from hand to foot x 10" wide hand to hand. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age. There is one bone missing from the skull and cross bones attribute.
