Rare to find as a complete set in two volumes, is this Great War series of stereoviews by Realistic Travels, numbered from 1 through to 200 in their original bookform cases and complete with a handheld stereoscope by Underwood and Underwood, embossed with the company's 'Sun Sculpture' emblem and engraved with maker's name and 1901 patent to the reverse. The photographs, all of which are annotated, provide a breath-taking three-dimensional record of life on the front line during World War.

Thanks to the magic of stereoscopy, these images provide a remarkable illusion of history in three dimensions.  The technique used two near identical photographs, each taken from a slightly different angle and then mounted side by side.  These 'fooled' the eyes into seeing a three dimensional image when the cards were viewed through a suitable stereoviewer.

Condition: All cards are present and in very good condition. The bookform cases show minor age-related wear and fading. The handheld stereoscope is in very good condition.
