Born c. 1885, in Paris.
Painter. Genre scenes, portraits, still-lifes (including flowers).
A pupil of Gérôme, Vincent Chevillard, Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury, Gustave Barrier painted many works in which he contrasts the brilliance of porcelain with the matte surface of ivory. He also painted genre scenes with gentlemen and musketeers from the time of Louis XIII. His works include White Porcelain; Portrait of a Man (1932); M. H. de L.; Goldware; Curios and Flowers (1934); Madame Ernest Denis (1935); Monsieur Ernest Denis (1936); Harmony (1938); and Ivories and Porcelain; Hollyhocks (1939).
He was a member of the Artistes Français and exhibited at their Salon from 1911, receiving an honourable mention in 1926 and a silver medal in 1928.
