Tekoteko, or gable figures are designed as pinnacle spires for storehouses, superior dwellings, and ceremonial meeting houses. They were put in place as general protection and guardianship over the tribe.


The faces of these figures are usually carved to represent tattooing which was a sign of rank. The head was considered the most important part of the body and therefore most carvings will be found to have an enlarged heads, out of proportion to the body.
