Edward S. Morse. Pictorial cloth. A tight, well-preserved copy of the presumed 1886 1st edition. Clean and VG+ in its wonderful navy-blue, pictorial boards, with lavish gilt-design and titling at the front panel. Inner hinges (both front and rear) starting but still perfectly solid. Internally, no writing or markings to speak of, 300+ line-drawn illustrations throughout by the author himself. Thick, dense quarto, top-edge gilt, deckled fore and bottom-edges. An early, pioneering work in Japanese design and architecure, one of the first to be written by a Westerner. Good.
