Miss Jekyll wrote part one: “Old and new garden roses and their beautiful use in gardens,” Edward Mawley part two: “Planting, pruning and propagating roses; exhibiting, growing under glass, etc.”

The book contains many photographs, all black and white.

Gertrude Jekyll remains one of the most important influences on the English gardening style, often in association with Sir Edwin Lutyens.

Edward Mawley was a meteorologist and horticulturalist, at one time President of the National Rose Society.
