This item was in the same family’s possession from new.

Manufactured circa 1957 by Lesney Matchbox.

Quite a rare item in this condition these days.

Super original box and garage.

Plastic construction garage having yellow base, red building and yellow roof clock signage.

Complete with an ESSO petrol pumps from the matchbox A1-A 1957 Accessory Pack. The pumps has some play wear and paint loss but otherwise complete and undamaged.

Totally all original box and model throughout which have been in safe storage for many years in a pet and smoke free home.

The box is unfaded and has no repairs and is undamaged, complete with all end flaps, graffiti free, clean with only light wear and in exceptional original condition for age - some 67 years old. The box has never been subjected to heavy play wear or messed about with and is a super example of this large matchbox box measuring approximately 8.50 inches x 5.75 inches x 2.25 inches (217 x 144 x 53mm). Very slight storage crushing and one 1/2 inch (15mm) small edge tear - see photos for full details of this original and honest rare box. See last photo for the small edge tear.

The plastic garage is fully complete with its roof signage & paper advertising labels, front sliding door, two rear opening doors and clear plastic glazing to the showroom frontage. There are no old repairs or damage to the plastic components. The roof clock is present but removed from the rest of the roof signage (it probably snapped off whilst sliding the garage into its box? - will probably super glue back in place) - see last photo. Only damage is slight crack to yellow low wall to the right hand side of the forecourt (see last photo) - but unnoticeable on display and with no damage or repairs (again will probably super glue repair). There is no sun fading or warping to the plastic material, everything is as it should be when originally made by Matchbox. Careful cleaning will bring back the plastic to as bought condition. An all original and honest example of this rare plastic garage.

The garage and it’s box will be carefully and individually wrapped and then securely boxed up for posting worldwide.

The following historical notes are taken from the Nick Jones Moko Lesney Matchbox Toy Collecting website- he is a recognised Matchbox expert;

The first Service Station was introduced in 1957, It was molded in red and yellow plastic and it had two opening doors at the rear and a sliding door to the front, It had a clear plastic window and a paper label

displayed "Matchbox Garage", A recess in the forecourt was to hold the newly introduced Accessory pack number 1 which was 3 die cast petrol

pumps with attendant plus an Esso sign, It was supposedly based on a

real garage somewhere close to the Lesney factory and it stayed in

production until 1959. At the time this was made Lesney did not have plastics molding equipment

so it was actually made by Raphael Lipkin Ltd, as identified by the two RLL trademark logos in black on the box front.
