Beautiful Silver Tray presented to Reserve official John Carpenter for the match between UCD and Everton September 19th 1984 in Tolka Park European Cup Winners Cup. This match finished 0-0 and Everton struggled to beat the part timers 1-0 in the second leg. Everton went on to lift the trophy in Rotterdam overcoming Rapid Vienna in the Final 3-1. Howard Kendall is on record saying it was their toughest tie in the whole competition.

Tray is inscribed : 'European cup Winners Cup. University College Dublin v Everton. Reserve official 19/9/1984'. John Carpenter was that Reserve Official and this is a very unique piece of memorabilia on Everton's journey to that final.

The Silver Tray is 30CM in diameter and weighs 400 Gms.

A fantastic souvenir for any Everton fan or collector.

*The programme is for reference only and does not come with the Tray

It comes from the estate of former referee John Carpenter from whom I bought a number of items at Auction. John Carpenter was a professional Referee who officiated in the League of Ireland from 1964 to 1984 as well as a FIFA Referee from 1969 to 1984. Carpenter took up refereeing when a broken leg cut short his playing career with Saint Patrick's Athletic. He joined the League of Ireland refereeing panel in 1964. Carpenter had a distinguished career in European club competitions, refereeing 37 matches and culminating in the 1982 Uefa Cup Final. He refereed 15 full internationals and was a Reserve official in the 1974 World Cup. When the North American Soccer League was launched, Carpenter was one of a small number of European Referees who were invited to officiate. He was Reserve official for the above match and was presented with the above tray as a memento of the occasion. It is a lovely piece of memorabilia. Thank you for taking time to view.
