the third live album by alvin lee and crew. 7 years after they started, 4 years after woodstock... on which wave they were still riding. they released 7 albums before this and they pulled a song each off of almost all of them. they had a couple of "hits"... love like a man & i'd love to change the world... neither of which is on here. like a number of bands, for them the studio was different from live. and this album is live, featuring lee's bluesy growl and lighting runs. outside of carrying a watermelon on and off stage at woodstock (where the hell did that come from?), he and the band became known pretty much for their signature song... "goin' home", a single verse song with a chorus of "i'm goin' home" repeated 6 times. and then 12 bar solos divided by choruses from 50's rock and roll songs. signature song... but the killer track here is "i can't keep from crying sometimes", an al kooper/blues project song that has a lot more guitar virtuosity than 12 notes per second. an earlier version was on "woodstock 2."
