1940-50’s i magnin & co. brown mink pillbox pill box hat w/original logo design hatbox. Read condition below.

Beautiful vintage brown mink pillbox hat from upscale designer. This stylish hat harkens back to the midcentury heyday and features rich brown fur accented with black fabric with a bit of a give at its base. The hat comes complete with its original I magnin & co. logo hat box.

This is a lovely item, measuring 22" - 22.5” in it’s circumference along the black stretchy fabric interior hatband without stretching the fabric so it has some extra give to it, well cared for and hat is in excellent, vintage condition. The fur is so soft, thick, and plush, the fabric is free from any stains or repairs. In fact, the hat shows no visible signs of wear except the i Magnin tag is a little loose and needs a couple of stitches.

The hat comes with a great vintage hatbox from I. Magnin & Co. If you’re not sure what I’m attempting to point out in the photos please message me and we can go through it together.

Please do your due diligence before purchasing or making an offer. I am a collector of new, vintage and antique items but I’m hardly an expert in the various types of items I’ve acquired.

Condition- I’m going to paint the broad strokes on the condition of the hat and the box separately. Then if more detail is warranted I will paint the finer strokes.

Hat condition-has a loose I magnin & co store tag inside lining but other than sewing a couple of stitches to secure the tag to hat it looks untouched, unused and well preserved excellent pre-owned vintage condition.

hatbox condition issues- 1)The hatbox lid and box bottom have both loosened and pulled away from the box side walls. Lid has approx. less than 1/2 in entirety of the edge has loosened cardboard edges that’s pulled away from the side walls.

The thickness of the two specified areas that have loosened and pulled away are much thinner at only 1/8 inch thick versus the boxes 3/8 inch thicker and sturdier cardboard side walls.

The bottom edge has approx. 1/4 of loosened edges of the circumference of the box and also has pulled away from the boxes side walls.

**No repairs have been attempted and I do not know what can be done to secure loose edges.

2)The logo paper that covers entire box on all eight sides of entire box has cosmetic issues. Due to wear, use and age of the box and it’s delicate nature. However being a delicate paper construction the box has been in my closet for decades but it has been moved frequently to make room, moved to different homes as well all have an impact on the overall condition.

The decades of being in a small walk-in closet in this dry, Phoenix climate has probably not been a truly helpful factor either I’m sure. But it’s a cool , useful and very appealing storage solution.

While these issues can affect or detract from the value, design and appearance of the box it does not affect the function of being a simple hatbox or a storage container for a lightweight hat.

3)The box container or box walls all the way around are sound and sturdy, are a weighty 3/8” thick paper cardboard.

4) The brown matching cord or rope that is attached to the box for carrying purposes is in excellent condition and all metal round’s or rings where the cord has been strung up through the boxes walls are all fine and working well. The cord in the center where it’s been handled many times over decades has started fraying but it’s minor and I trimmed the loose frays off but did not cut the attached threads.

Anchors that hold the two ends of the cord in place are both secure and sturdy.

While I do try to offer a reasonable, perhaps overly detailed description of conditions for you and photos of the main issues/all issues if there’s room for the photos.

I look for the problems and try to share the issues in writing and visuals but that does not mean that I have addressed every issue an item may ultimately have because I am familiar with hunting down, researching items before I list them, I may not have experienced all types of repairs or every cosmetic or structural issues for all the various items I buy and sell. Don’t rely on me as an expert when I’m a collector of all things cool.

This does not mean that potential buyer is able to relinquish their duty to examine the photos and read the descriptions no matter how long and how much it may hurt to have to read it all.

I want every potential buyer to have the best information to make an informed decision about the purchase. If I show and explain the item and condition now we can have “a meeting of the minds” if you will.

Please be on the lookout for a mink coat and a lightweight, black fox jacket or suit coat. Fox on lapels can be easily removed and placed on another coat or jacket. Coming soon!
