An original late 1930s Australian souvenir notebook with faux tortoise-shell celluloid covers stamped on the front "WITH COMPLIMENTS FROM M. A. McDONALD, THE ROYAL MAIL HOTEL, BOURKE & SWANSTON STS., MELBOURNE, PHONE CENT. 644".  Measures 110 x 65 mm. In excellent condition; the inside retains many original blank notepaper sheets (some have been torn out).  A search of old Melbourne newspapers on Trove tell us that M. A. McDonald came from Sydney and took over as proprietor of the Royal Mail in September 1937. This notebook almost certainly dates to around that time.
