This signet-style ring was originally designed as a man's pinkie ring but it's a nice bold ring for the ladies as well.  

Allover basket-weave design.

The black star sapphire is an oval cabochon weighing approximately 5 carats.    This is a natural stone and the star is pretty shy; it only comes out in certain lighting situations, but when it does, it's very pronounced.  Our primary photo was taken in a lightbox with a pinlight shining directly onto the face, but even when it's not showing its star quality, this stone has the gorgeous, characteristic luster of star sapphires with some particularly strong diagonal striations.  

Measurements:  

  Face height: 14.2mm (just over 1/2")

  Band width in back: 4.5mm (0.2")

  Band thickness: 1.5mm

  Sapphire: 10.5mm x 8.5mm

Marks:  Stamped "14K;"  no maker's mark.

Condition:  Eytan cleaned and polished the ring and it looks great, inside and out.   As you can see in the "rear view" view, the stone has some divots in the back.  These might be original to the finished stone, since it would be pretty hard to damage a sapphire cabochon in this particular fashion once it's set, but whatever their story, these pits aren't fissures that threaten the stone itself and they don't affect the stone's face. 

Size:  According to the mandrel, this ring is a size 5.25, but it fits like a 5.5 since the front is concave.  The band is reszable, but your jeweler will probably want to add a "blank" plate instead of trying to copy the basketweave pattern.   

Weight:  The ring weighs 12.7 grams.  The gold weight is about 11.7 grams.
