A RARE 90'S VINTAGE, FRENCH MADE MICHEL HERBELIN NEWPORT MODEL 14455 SOLID STAINLESS STEEL/GOLD PLATED TACHYMETRE WATCH WITH A 16 JEWEL GOLD PLATED ETA 255.241 CALIBRE QUARTZ CHRONOGRAPH MOVEMENT COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL BRANDED SHELL-TYPE PRESENTATION CASE, UNWRITTEN GUARANTEE CARD AND SERVICE CENTRE LISTING

This stunning watch has a 33mm round x 7mm slim stainless steel gold plated case (platers mark alongside the crown) with a brushed stainless steel fixed bezel stamped NEWPORT surrounding a bevelled mineral crystal which has a tiny (requires magnification) 2mm mark between 5&6 over an enamelled white face with gold raised baton indices with an outer Tachymetre calibration and gold coloured baton shaped hour and minute hands. The thin black central second hand is operated by the button below the crown and counts the seconds - with every minute rotation recorded by the small sub-dial. The seconds count can be stopped at any point by pressing the button once more and finally, on the third press, both hands return sharply and accurately to the 12 (zero) position. This operation is completely separate to the continual time-movement of the hour and minute hands. At position 3 there is a date aperture alongside which is a gold plated M.Herbelin branded crown which correctly alters the date on the first pull and the time on the second.

The unmarked rear stainless steel case-back reads as follows:-

(MH LOGO) - MICHEL HERBELIN PARIS - 14455 - MADE IN FRANCE - ETA SWISS MOVT - WATER RESISTANT (Not tested or guaranteed) covering a fully working and accurate Swiss ETA 255.241 calibre 16 Jewel gold plated quartz chronograph hacking movement which has been professionally inspected and a fresh Renata battery fitted. The clear original rear seal/gasket was found to be in excellent condition when silicone coated and the cover aligned and tool-pressed back into place. 

This expensive 255.251 high-specification calibre was first introduced by ETA in 1986 and is characterised by the overlaying of two motors : one for the movement the other for the chronograph function which can be read in an analogue way and also found in many other prestigious brands such as Gucci and Longines.

Attached to the flathead screw-ended bar-style lugs is the original, barely worn, bespoke Michel Herbelin and Newport branded, black reptile grained leather strap, which has been cleaned and conditioned to bring back it's suppleness, culminating with a MH branded gold plated buckle. This will accommodate a wrist size of up to 200mm/8inches.
