An original Australian albumen print photograph dating to around 1885, in cabinet card format, approx. 165 x 110 mm, by YEOMAN & CO., PRAHRAN (MELBOURNE).

A cute little girl dressed for winter, holding a spade and sitting on a studio "hay bale".

This cab card came from a disintegrated album which had a presentation inscription at the front, dated 1887, from Alfred William Goddard (Ballarat 1857-1910 Prahran) to his second wife, Sarah Jane Fountain (Ballarat 1858-1925 Richmond). The Goddards were from Ballarat East, and the Fountains were from Canadian Gully. Alfred married Sarah at St. Paul's, Ballarat East, in April 1879. Alfred and Sarah then moved to Melbourne, and lived at Bowen Villa, 13 Donald Street, Prahran, from the time of their marriage up until Alfred's death in 1910. The little girl in this studio portrait could well be Stephanie, their only daughter.

Superb print in excellent condition. The back of the mount is blank.
