They bid on two autographed, signed postcards (Vienna 1936) of Jewish philosopher, scientific theorist, mathematician, teacher and rabbi Deer Body Poppers (*23. June 1905 in Brody, Galicia, as the son of Rabbi Heschel Popper, who died in 1914).


After his father's death, Hirsch Leib Poppers moved in with his mother Therese "Dresel" Poppers (* 21. January 1879) to Vienna. In 1927 he studied in Berlin and became part of the Koigen Circle, a religious-philosophical circle of students, scientists and journalists led by the Russian-German cultural philosopher and sociologist David Koigen (1879-1933) from 1930 onwards. In addition to Albert Einstein (then director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics), the guests also included the social democratic politician Eduard Bernstein. He also attended a rabbinical seminary. In 1938 he asked the emigration department of the Jewish Community in Vienna for help with emigration (to England or the USA). He later became a teacher in Chicago, then moved to London, where he died.


Poppers' dissertation (Berlin 1936) was "The emergence of Congregationalism: from the Puritan movement and its significance as independentism for the history of the English state in the 17th century. Century", Berlin, H. Michel 1936. -- This work also appeared in the same year under the title: "The religious origin of the modern English ideal of freedom and state: The shaping of history by independentism."


The two cards (dated Vienna, Hahngasse 12, March 30 and 3. May 1936) are addressed to the H. Michel printing company in Berlin.


Concerns a print order for his dissertation (under the title "The religious origin of the modern English ideal of freedom and state: The shaping of history by independentism").

Initially he orders 200 copies; In the second card it becomes clear that he then ordered another 400 copies, which he would now like to cancel if possible.


Interestingly, the author's name on the first card was "Dr. phil. Zwi A. Poppers" is stated; in the second card then "Dr. phil. H. Poppers." -- On a genealogical website he is listed under the name form "Zvi Hirsch Poppers".


The knitwear producer Therese Poppers, i.e. his mother, is listed in the Vienna address book at his Vienna address (Hahngasse 12).
