This is an original French St. Helena Medal, awarded in 1857 to all the survivors of Napoleon's Armies, both French and Allied Nations. It is dark bronze, and is sometimes called the "Chocolate Drop." it has a handsome bust of Napoleon on the obverse with a crown above, and the reverse has the inscription in French, "To His Companions in Glory, His Final Thought,  St. Helena 5 May, 1821." The ribbon is silk, green and red, and later was adopted as the ribbon for the WWI Croix de Guerre.
