Bluegrass music enjoyed an immensely creative period in the 1950s and 60s. Fans uphold this era for the music's intense emotional qualities and what has come to be known as "the high lonesome sound." This CD features some of the best bluegrass recordings from this period. Jimmy Martin & Bob Osborne recorded together for King Records in 1951 and since then both have become musical legends. Vern & Ray recorded for Starday Records a decade later. Their song "Cabin On A Mountain" is a classic in the bluegrass style. The Stoneman Family was known as one of the best bluegrass groups around; banjo player Ronnie Stoneman is known to country music fans for her later appearances on Hee Haw.
