S.Yairi YD-303 1978 (1978)

Among the many Japanese vintage brands, S. Yairi is especially popular.
The key to the recent popularity of vintage S. Yairi is that it was relatively expensive among Japanese acoustic guitar manufacturers at the time, and was not a brand that poor guitar boys could afford. Maybe.
However, since then, S. Yairi has had a reputation for its good construction and sound quality, and there is no doubt that this reputation for S. Yairi from back then has led to its current popularity.
This time in stock is 78s YD-303.
This is a valuable piece of the so-called second period 2-piece back Jacaranda!

Solid spruce TOP, laminate Jacaranda SIDE & BACK, mahogany NECK, ebony fingerboard & bridge, actual 44.5mm nut, 645mm scale dreadnought body.
There is no model name stamped on the bottom of the first fret of the rod or on the last fret of the fingerboard, and the model name and serial number are branded on the neck block. This is a so-called second period type individual.
For an S. Yairi from that time, there are few scratches and it is in very good condition!

The sound is a strong and dense sound typical of S. Yairi! It has the crisp and explosive power typical of Jacaranda, but it also has a dense and dense sound, producing a stable and powerful sound.
S. Yairi's rustic and sturdy sound is added with Jacaranda's unique sustain and overtones, producing a Yairi's bold and glittering sound!Although it has the Jacaranda's edge, it is just average. It also feels like a slightly sweeter and mellower sound than the Jacaranda sound.
If you strum it with a flat pick, you will get a strong and voluminous sound that is typical of Yairi, but it is not a sharp sound that stings your ears, but the overall sound is solid and resonates in your stomach. It sounds like it's coming.
When played with a finger, the dazzling sound of the Jacaranda is added to the moist sound typical of old Japanese guitars, and when playing old folk songs, the Donzuba has a nostalgic yet reassuring sound. You can enjoy it!

The condition of the instrument is in very good condition considering its age! There is some tanning on the top, but for an average Showa S.
There are some small scratches on the top of the body that are less than the size of a grain of rice, and there are some light scratches on the side and back, but all of these scratches are noticeable when viewed as a vintage product. I don't think there is.
The cell binding on the back side of the body has shrunk and is cracked in one place on the shoulder on the 1st string side, but this is nothing compared to the cell cracks on Guild.
If you look closely at the cloudy paint that is common with Japan Vintage cars, you can see a vague white cloudiness that looks like you touched it with your finger when painting the body and back, but this is also an exaggeration to the extent that it is called cloudy. It's not a fancy item, so if you have an understanding of Japan Vintage, I don't think you'll be concerned about it at all.
There is a slight scratch on the back of the 2nd fret of the neck, but there are no capo scratches, and the back of the neck is very clean and smooth to the touch.

The neck condition is good and straight, and the current string height is about 2.5mm on the 6th string and 2.0mm on the 1st string above the 12th fret, which is the best setting.
Although the saddle is almost no longer OK, I think it has very playability as a Showa S. Yairi even now.
There are no noticeable dents on the frets, and even at the point where the frets have been reduced the most, about 80-90% of the original height remains.

This is recommended not only for S. Yairi fans, but also for those looking for a solid quality guitar at an affordable price!

A general-purpose hard case is included.
