This auction is for the VINTAGE LATE 19th CENTURY APPX. 11x13.75-INCH GRAVURE PRINT OF AN ACADEMIC MALE NUDE TRIO, SHOT BY AN UNIDENTIFIED PHOTOGRAPHER AND PUBLISHED WITH THE NOTATIONS 2e ANNEE / SEPTIEME LIVRAISON / PL. 1, WHICH IS LOOSE AND UNMATTED, IN ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION.

Those who follow my auctions will know that I seldom list photographs of this vintage (primarily because they are so rare, and the ones I have acquired over the years, I'm keeping for my vast personal collection). This rare print is in EXCELLENT condition, although it is a "printed" gravure photograph rather than a gelatin silver darkroom photographic print. I won't speculate as some other dealers do as to the creator of this particular image, since I can't attribute it with confidence. Nevertheless, it is a lovely and historically important artifact of a time when the explosion of interest in photography and the accessibility of the male nude collided and became the direct antecedents of physique photography as we came to know it 30-50 years later.
