Vintage Oaxaca Mexico Rug Wool Zapotec Hand Woven Wall Hanging

Reminiscent of 1960's Era, however, I have no previous ownership history.

Seems to speak of possible Fertility theme such as embryo, seed, corn... However, I can not confirm.

Measures approximately  29" x 42”

CONDITIONAL FLAWS:

Fringe on both ends has excessive wear and damage, some unraveling of dark brown threads in weave on both ends, and broken, tangled, and matted fringe.

One end where fringe is missing has a flawed area of damage where the dark brown threads have been affected and show signs of unraveling of approximately 4" wide and up to 1.5" from outer edge upward ( see pictures.)

Another area of damage in weave is located just outside brown boarder at the top of the Ivory colored weave above the middle flowering design. It measures approximately 1.5" wide and is about 1" long on best side, little worse on flip side ( see pictures.)

Other minor flaws may include some pilling of surface wool, and possibly some faint beginnings of a loose thread or knot, but does not seem to effect the basic integrity of the weave. There may be a few minor spots of light surface dirt (on flip side) or marks that I have not attempted to clean, and leave that to buyer's discretion.

I suspect this stunning handwoven art was used as a rug for a brief period, possibly in a lower traffic area, instead of being fully preserved in the form of a wall hanging. Despite this condition, this remains a hard to find, exquisite textile worth great appreciation.
