VTG 1950s Navy Blue Checked Suit 3 roll 2 jacket with drop-loop pants. (41 Reg) Mad Men MCM Retro Rockabilly
Up sale is this classic checked suit from the mid - late1950s (41 Reg) The cloth appears to be a mid-weight wool in an understated checked pattern. The cut of the jacket is American style with fully padded shoulders, a 3 roll 2 closure, and a minimal single rear vent. The trousers are pleated, very high rise, droop loop, with a watch pocket, and cuffed bottoms.
Condition: Very Good / Excellent condition. Two very small holes on the side of the left leg which are very difficult to notice -see photo. Normal light discoloration on the canvassing of pants. Otherwise, very lightly used with almost no signs of wear. A very well-preserved suit with nicely pressed pants. From a smoke-free home.
Maker: Stein Bloch Tailor for John Franks in Westfield, NJ
Material: no markings, but looks and feels like wool.
Marked: No markings, but measures to a 41.5 Reg. The trousers are 36" W and 30.75"L (with a 1 3/8" cuff and a .25" hem).

Chest (arm pit to arm pit): 22.75" double is 45.5" the normal deduction is 4" making it a 41.5
Waist (across top /middle button): 21.75"
Sleeve (from shoulder edge seam to cuff): 25.5" with a hem of 2.5"
Shoulder (back seam to seam): 18.5"
Length (from bottom of back collar to hem): 30.5"
Pants:
Waist: 18" double is 36" (with about 1.25" to let out)
Rise: 13.25" (very high rise)
Zipper: 9.5"
Length (inseam): 30.75" with a .25" hem and a 1 3/8" cuff
Total length (from waist to cuff): 43.5"
Bottom opening: 9.25"
A note on grading:
Mint: Perfect; like brand new
Excellent: Looks nearly perfect; no visible flaws; almost new condition
Very Good: Only a few minor flaws which are not visible or have no effect on the look of the garment
Good: Multiple minor flaws, but may not be very noticeable, the garment is still wearable, but may need minor repair
A few words on sizing: Since many suits aren't marked, I go by measurements to determine size. Also be aware that sometimes a suit is marked, but it doesn't match the measurements. If you aren't sure of your size or the size of your own well-fitting jacket, there are a lot of guides on the internet to help you measure yourself and your jackets. I use "askandyaboutclothes" "how to measure a men's suit jacket" as the basis for my measurements. I’m not affiliated with this guide, it just is the most user-friendly. Please take a little time to check your measurements, before you invest in a suit.
