Skippet, Golden Brass, 'The Old Treaty Seal of the United States', 19th Century

 

Details:

·       This golden brass box is a reproduction of a ‘skippet’, a metal case that houses the was impression of a seal and bears on its cover a replica of the seal in relief.  The motif on the cover is an eagle with laurel branch and arrows, with the moto ‘E Pluribus Unum’ and the 13 stars for the original union.

·       It is quite heavy, and well made.  It measures about 5 ½” in diameter.

·       It is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
