"Great Spotted Woodpecker"

A Finely Jeweled and Gilded Mintons Cabinet Plate

Hand Painted Ornithological Scene, 1875

On offer here is this very charming Mintons porcelain cabinet plate with Rose Pompadour, the rim and inner cavetto sumptuously gilded and jeweled, on a pink 'Rose Pompadour' ground.

The cavetto is superbly hand painted with a woodland scene depicting an example of a Greater Spotted Woodpecker, 'drumming' on the trunk of a tree.

The reverse of the plate has gold printed mark of the Mintons globe with surrounding ribbons containing the retailers name of John Mortlock, Oxford and Orchard Sts - London as well as painted pattern number G2127 in puce. The  impressed year cypher indicates the date of manufacture 1875.

Condition Report

This delightful  plate is in excellent condition.
There are no losses, chips, cracks, scratches or repairs to report, in the interest of accuracy we  would like to point out a minor molding flaw at bottom left rim, at about the 7 o'clock mark, which is only noticeable with reflected light, as in one of our images under tent lighting. It appears the factory was unpreturbed as it has been painted and gilded over and has little bearing on the cosmetic appearance.
