These car are susceptible to EGR stepper motor failure which puts the engine management light on and produces a P1499 diagnostic error code. The EGR system of Exhaust gas recirculation ceases to work and your car will fail its MOT.

Replacement of the EGR valve is required but does not typically clear the P1499 error condition and associated Engine light.

When the EGR stepper motor fails, it usually sends a destructive spike of electricity to the controller on the ECU.

Inspection of the ECU and indeed the acrid smell emanating from the part, prove the point.

The service offered here applies to all MK2.5 ECUs, so B6MV, B6MVA, B6NB, BP6MC, BP6MD, BP7P, BP7PA and BP7PC.

I can help with B6NBA but more money and may be in a position to assist with the 1.8 Auto BP6P ecu but it will cost significantly more money; please ask me if needed.
