This beautiful Victorian ram was hand made with sheepskin, sheep’s hide ears - an authentic Victorian curiosity! The details are exquisite, from the turn of the horns to the set of his eyes. He has obvious yellowing of the fleece otherwise the fleece is in amazing shape for age - an amazing piece. Other previously sold pieces all date this to late 1800s usually from Germany. The hooves are possibly celluloid (invented in 1869). The horns are either a carved lightweight wood or an extremely well done paper mache that must have been painted brown. This collectible piece would be wonderful in a nursery, added to a Victorian toy collection, or as a unique display piece on a mantel (antique landscape painting, spring flowers in old bottles) or amoungst fir and candles for a lovely Christmas display. One leg is slightly shorter then the other three but it will stand on its own. Please see all pics for condition. The ram measures approx 12” high 10 1/4” horn to tail, 4” wide across body, 6” wide across horns. Please see all pictures.
