YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOW.

FOR THIS AND MANY OTHER GREAT RARE RADIO SHOWS YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES.

AND, HOW DO YOU DEFINE RARENESS??

THERE WERE NO MORE THAN 175 LPS OR CDS PRESSED FOR EACH SHOW (SHOWS PRIOR TO 1990 WERE USUALLY ON LP; SHOWS UP TO AROUND 2000 WERE PRESSED ON CD; AND SHOWS UP TO AROUND 2010 WERE PRESSED ON CDR.  SHOWS AFTER AROUND 2010 WERE DISTRIBUTED TO AFFILIATE STATIONS BY DIGITAL DOWNLOAD AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO COLLECTORS.  PRESSED FOR EACH WEEKLY SHOW.  THE 175 NUMBER REPRESENTED THE TOP 175 RADIO MARKETS IN THE COUNTRY AND ONLY ONE STATION IN EACH MARKET COULD AIR THE SHOW.

STATIONS IN MARKETS BELOW THE TOP 175 (THERE ARE 306 MARKETS IN THE UNITED STATES) HAD TO TAKE THE SATELLITE FEED OF THE SHOW FROM THE FOX KIDS RADIO NETWORK, THE SYNDICATOR OF THE SERIES)

AND, DUE TO CONTRACTUAL LEGAL OBLIGATIONS, EACH RADIO STATION WAS ALLOWED TO AIR EACH SHOW EXACTLY ONCE AND NO MORE.

SO, MOST RADIO STATIONS JUST DESTROYED THEM AFTER AIRING SINCE THEY WERE USELESS TO THE STATION AFTER AIRING.  THERE IS NO TELLING HOW MANY OF EACH SHOW SURVIVED.  WHO KNOWS - THIS COULD BE THE ONLY ONE.

 This show is called

LIVE FROM THE 60's WITH THE REAL DON STEELE

It was an enormously popular show in its day and is now rarely available except  through overseas sellers who have accumulated them for their own collections over the years. (You would truly be surprised at the popularity of radio shows overseas where millions listed daily to the Armed Forces station at the base near them and heard this popular show) (Only the top shows in the United States were added to the American Forces Radio Network schedules overseas at military bases - this was one of them, and for good reason)

The show featured one of the 60's biggest dj's, Don Steele, an original "Boss Jock" who helped originate the super sound of the 60's that we all knew and loved.

In fact, each hour of this three hour show replicated an hour of the featured year in the 60's with the "Boss Jock" dj patter, jingles, entertainment items and everything from that featured year that you remember as if you were listening when you were in that year in the 60's .

If you know and love 60's radio and music you know "The Real Don Steele"  There was literally no other radio show that was ever like it. And, it was produced by the legendary dj M.K. Kelly who was a producer and dj on many of the greatest radio shows in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Steele became nationally known as a DJ on radio station KHJ in Los Angeles KHJ  , where he helped to promote the "ultrahip" top 40 Boss radio  format which began at 3pm on April 27, 1965. He also appeared on TV as host of Boss City and The Real Don Steele TV Show, a show which ran from 1965 to 1975 on KHJ-TV channel 9 in Los Angeles. When the popularity of AM radio  gave way to FM Stereo in the 1970s, Steele continued to remain a popular personality at the station. Following the years at 93/KHJ, The Real Don Steele continued to be heard on Los Angeles radio stations, including KIQQ (K-100), KTNQ (Ten-Q), KRLA, KCBS-FM and KRTH-FM (K-Earth 101), until his death in August 1997.

In the book Los Angeles Radio People, Steele recalled the beginnings of Boss Radio in 1965: "We were standing literally at ground zero, then (the radio format) became a huge giant. It was like a mushroom cloud that went up -- heavy on the mushroom."

Steele also gained additional notoriety due to an ill-fated promotion which KHJ undertook on behalf of his show during the summer of 1970. The promotion was dubbed a “Super Summer Spectacular” and involved Steele driving around the Los Angeles-area in a flashy red car.

One of Steele's ongoing on-air bits was the refrain, "Tina Delgado is alive, alive!" Legends grew as to the meaning of the phrase, but Steele never did reveal what it really meant, or who the girl was who uttered the words.

The Real Don Steele stayed at KHJ until June 1973, then moved on to L.A. radio stations KIQQ, KTNQ, KRLA, KODJ / KCBS and arrived at KRTH in July 1982. He recorded commercials and at one time had a successful, nationally syndicated radio show. He is also the DJ on Cheap Trick's "On the Radio" ("Heaven Tonight"). His career took a dive in the mid-1980s, at which time a copywriter directing him as a voiceover for a Sea World radio spot introduced him to legendary voice actor Ernie Anderson. On hearing Steele in the booth, Anderson immediately connected Steele to his agent. Within weeks, Steele was back on top with a drive time slot at KRTH-FM in Los Angeles.

That show, "Live From the 60's", was created by Steele along with friend and contemporary MG Machine Gun Kelly who followed Steele at KHJ, then DJ'd with him in the '70s at 10Q. "Live From the 60's" was a three-hour program that featured oldies exclusively from the 1960s. Each hour of the show profiled a certain year from that decade. It was written and performed in present tense, and peppered with audio clips of news events, presidential speeches and TV shows that correlated with that particular year. The show ran in syndication, and was marketed and picked up by over 200 radio stations with an "Oldies" format from 1988 until 1993. Repeats of earlier shows aired in some markets as late as 1996. In July 2015, "Live From the 60's with The Real Don Steele" was placed back into three hour re-run syndication for AM/FM and Podcasting radio stations.

The show comes with its cue sheets in excellent condition and the vinyl discs themselves are  immaculate and like new.  This show probably was played on the day it aired and not since, 32+ years later.

Each hour contained up to 18 tunes from the featured year.  It is an enthralling hour that will captivate you.  You will be disappointed when it is over and want even more!

CUE SHEETS DID NOT LIST SONGS - ONLY EXACTLY WHAT THE RADIO STATION BOARD OPERATOR NEEDED TO KNOW WHEN TO PAUSE THE NATIONAL SHOW FOR THE LOCAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS.  THIS WAS BECAUSE THE PRODUCER, M.G. MACHINE GUN KELLY, WANTED THE WHOLE VIBE OF THE SHOW TO BE AIRED AS IF IN THE EXACT YEAR AND MONTH AND DAY IT WAS BROADCAST.

AND IT WORKED!!

THIS WEEK'S SHOW FEATURED THE YEARS 1969, 1961 AND 1967

EVEN THE NATIONAL COMMERCIALS THAT AIR DURING THE BREAKS WILL BRING BACK MEMORIES AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.  ON THIS SHOW YOU WILL HEAR DENNY'S, HERSHEY'S YORK'S PEPPERMINT PATTIES, SHOWER TO SHOWER, CBS COMPACT DISC CLUB, NBA BASKETBALL, AND MORE

I HAVE MANY OF THE FANTASTIC SHOWS FROM THIS SERIES THAT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO COME ACROSS,  AND  I WILL BE LISTING THEM UNTIL THEY ARE GONE.  MOST OF YOUR FAVORITE 60's ARTISTS ARE REPRESENTED.

This show aired the week of  June 11, 1990  AND IS SHOW #126

IT IS TRULY A ONE OF A KIND SHOW AND BELONGS IN YOUR SPECIAL COLLECTION.

SO HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS:

 WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?

 WHY COLLECT THEM?

 WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

First allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.

I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.

This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's.

I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie".

Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all.  He was a real pioneer.  Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered.

Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in a while I could afford one or two.

Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie".  I have listed over 11,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you to drool over, and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford!  I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and especially in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.

Radio shows are harder and harder to find in quantity and the prices for the ones still out there just go higher and higher as they disappear from the market.  However, because of my large presence on eBay, I am always being contacted with selling offers, some of which I take advantage of and some I have to pass on because of the prices. I have found that by buying in bulk, even when many or most of the shows are lesser known but still amazing shows, I can offer the best prices on all titles.

So, again, what is a radio show?

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.

Many air on Saturday or Sunday mornings, afternoons or evenings or less often during overnight segments.

They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees, Bob Kingsley and Dick Bartley and so many others.

People collect them for various reasons.

Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a downloaded compilation , they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj comments which were very entertaining.

Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.

Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those.

AND, these shows are in limited quantity.

They were pressed just for affiliate stations in the United States.

They were first distributed on reel to reel tape or on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.

The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.

I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a  guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money.  I sell them for near what I bought them for.  I give volume discounts and discount postage always.  As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years have decreased.  With the postal service's recent huge rate hikes, my shipping rates remained exactly the same as they were.

And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of way over fifteen thousand unique shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.

Finally, it is Americana at its best.

Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.

And you just can't find them anywhere.

Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.   Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of music radio.

And every  one you buy is  an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions in the hundreds at most and most, like this special show,  much less.  Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life!  Welcome to the Club!

REMEMBER, This is the genuine original show that was sent to the radio station for airing.  It is NOT an unauthorized copy but the Real McCoy!!!   I personally guarantee that every radio show that I sell is the original show sent to stations.

You are truly buying a  show that will only increase in value and I am selling them at a price very close to what I paid for it.

Remember that this and all the radio music shows that you see on eBay  are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere.  It is the mixture of great music in themes and great announcing that makes it so entertaining.

As well, it is a piece of radio and music  history.

Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price.

It is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection.

As always, for U.S. buyers, I charge only shipping on the first cd or single lp show you buy so the more you buy the more money you will save. (For our International buyers all shipping is through the eBay International Shipping Program)

Good Luck and God Bless You
