Rich Blue Onion Pattern with Gilding

Dresden - Germany circa 1870

On offer here is a rare opportunity to acquire a complete Meissen porcelain, 1st quality tea set for 6 persons in the harder-to-find 'Rich Blue Onion Pattern'.

The set is comprised of a globular teapot with lid, a pear-shaped cream or milk jug, a sugar basin and 6 quatrefoil shaped teacups, saucer and cake plate trios. All the pieces are decorated with rich gilding to the rims, handles, spout and feet and the blue onion pattern is outlined in gilt with the addition of iron-red floral motifs.

Each item bears a 1st quality Meissen crossed swords mark and this set dates to circa 1870.

Condition Report

This charming set is in SUPERB condition  with NO chips, cracks, scratches or repairs to any of the pieces . The sugar bowl appears to have had a lid, which sadly is now missing.


Teapot: 9 inches /23 cm handle to spout x 5 inches/13 cm high.
Cake Plates: 6 inches/15 cm diameter
Cups :  2.2 inches /5.5 cm  high x  8 cm / 3.15 inches x 7.5 cm/2.95 inches across the opening
Saucers: 5 inches/13 cm long x 1.12 inches/ 3 cm deep.
