An original Australian large format albumen photograph taken during the Great Melbourne Flood on 1st August 1891,  180 x 230 mm, unmounted. No photographer's imprint but attributed to Paul & Gerald Turner, the Collins Street photographers who captured many of the dramatic scenes around the city during this infamous natural disaster.

This fantastic animated view looks directly south down Punt Road towards the Richmond railway bridge and the Yarra; the MCG is out of picture but is about 250 metres to the right of where the photograph was taken.

The albumen print has some light wrinkling (exaggerated by the scanner); tiny nick at bottom left corner; remains of two small hinges at top edge.

A great Melbourne social history image!
