They work much better than your typical GMRS or FRS radios since 900mhz will bounce around the ship.. They transmit at 1 watt, similar to other 900MHZ radios such as the DLR and DTR radios.

These are analog and DMR capable in the 900mhz 33cm band.  They are not frequency hopping ( FHSS), but do have similar coverage as the DTR and DLR radios.
