The text on the American Optical Core original sunglasses case provides specific information about the sunglasses and their specifications. Here’s a breakdown of what it means:

SUNGLASSES, HGU-4/P, MIL-S-25948J:

HGU-4/P: This is a military designation for a type of aviator sunglasses.

MIL-S-25948J: This refers to the military specification standard that these sunglasses meet. The "MIL-S" prefix indicates a military standard for sunglasses.

IMPACT RESISTANT - NOT SAFETY GLASSES: This indicates that the lenses are impact-resistant, meaning they can withstand certain levels of force without shattering, but they are not classified as safety glasses, which are designed to offer higher levels of protection in hazardous environments.

AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP:

This identifies the manufacturer, American Optical Corporation, known for producing high-quality optical products, including military eyewear.

CONTRACT # DLA-100-87-C-4533:

This is the specific government contract number under which these sunglasses were produced. "DLA" stands for Defense Logistics Agency, which manages supplies for the U.S. military. The numbers following it represent the unique identifier for this contract.

In summary, this case label indicates that the sunglasses inside are military-grade aviator sunglasses made by American Optical Corporation, meeting specific military standards for impact resistance, although they are not classified as safety glasses. The contract number references the specific order placed by the military for these sunglasses.

The contract number DLA-100-87-C-4533 provides a clue to the year these sunglasses were made. The "87" in the contract number typically signifies the fiscal year in which the contract was issued, which is 1987. Therefore, it is likely that these American Optical Core sunglasses were manufactured in 1987.
