This is a striking looking quilt: it shows as if it were a work of modern art, although it is actually a work of folk art.

But, please, be advised, the quilt looks better in the photos than "in person": somehow, the geometry and the combination of colors "convinced" our digital camera to show them to be somewhat nicer.

It is a well used quilt, still in decent shape; situations observed during inspection are:

- there are at least 3 swatches that were replaced by previous owners, with "less vintage" fabrics: examples are the orange cotton on pic # 22 and the beige or creamy strip seen on pic # 23.

- there are 16 damaged swatches: examples on pics # 20 and 21.

- there are 2 clusters of stains on the backing that do not affect the business side.

- the binding is still usable, but it has areas or tracks where some fraying exists.

On the other hand, the quilt has no stains on the business side and no odors.

It measures 70" by 55" across and weighs 2 3/4 lb. unboxed, as it is a light weight summer quilt.

The antique fabrics were made between the 19th century and1910, give or take. Those fabrics include colors typical from the era: indigo blue, cadet blue, burgundy red, mourning colors, and shirting.

The prints, as shown in some of the close-ups, are tiny flowers or geometric figures. The red on white cotton used for the sashing strips has a print of straight lines and diminutive concentric diamonds, see pic # 12.

The piecing and quilting were done by hand; the batting and backing are of course cotton.
