About Anton Daniel Pehmöller (source: wikipedia):

Anton Daniel Pehmöller (* 5. January 1802 in Hamburg; † 15. March 1874 in Hamburg-Hamm) was a German merchant, owner of the AD Pehmöller trading house and president of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in 1850 and 1851.

Family: Pehmöller comes from a respected Hamburg merchant family, which began with his grandfather, the confectioner Cord Nicolaus Pehmöller. He was the son of his father of the same name, the merchant Anton Daniel Pehmöller (1772–1826) and Dorothea Wilhelmine, née. from Döhren. His cousin Franz Hinrich Pehmöller was superintendent of the Berlin Missionary Society in South Africa. Pehmöller married on the 10th. December 1839 his cousin Therese Philippine Pehmöller (née. 1811), daughter of his uncle, the Hamburg senator and banker Christian Nicolas Pehmöller (1769–1845) and his wife Pauline Eleonore, née. Meyer (1782–1872). Together they had a daughter, Pauline Theresia Antonia (née 1845).

Life:Like his father, Pehmöller founded a trading company at Alten Wandrahm 26 in 1826 after taking the civic oath. In 1832 the company was briefly converted into a trading partnership, but in 1837 he was again the sole owner. He later moved his residence to Dammtorstrasse 35, but kept his office in Alter Wandrahm. From 1841 to 1846 he also worked as an elected commercial judge. His attempts to be elected to the Commercial Deputation since 1840 at the suggestion of the Commercial Deputation and the Assembly of an Honorable Merchant had ended on January 4th. December 1847 finally success. As a commercial deputy, he was sent to the excise deputation (1848), customs deputation (1848) and the brokerage department (1848–1851), as well as to the bank deputation (1849). On 2. In February 1850 he was elected president for one year. After his successor Robert Flor had to give up this office after only 2 months, Pehmöller took over the leadership of today's Chamber of Commerce again in 1851.

What attracted attention during his term of office was the Chamber of Commerce's rejection of the establishment of a German customs union, which the Hamburg Senate wanted to approve after the failure of the customs union at the Dresden conferences in 1850/1851. As a result, Hamburg did not join until 1888.

Other honorary positions: Pehmöller was a convinced free trader and was verifiably a member of the Association for Trade Freedom from 1848. He was also a committed Freemason, was accepted into the “Ferdinand zum Felsen” lodge in 1825, promoted to master in 1835 and led it as master from 1836 to 1838. At the same time, Pehmöller was an honorary member of the “Carl zum Felsen” lodge in Altona.
