The Heinkel He 46 was a German parasol-wing monoplane designed during the interwar period for advanced reconnaissance and liaison missions. Serving a short time on the front line during the first months of World War II, this aircraft continued to be used until 1943 for nocturnal harassment bombings.
The early 1930s were marked by the strong growth of the German army. The German Air Ministry (RLM) was looking for aircraft that could be built quickly and would equip the young Luftwaffe to train its pilots. The German industrialist and engineer Ernst Heinkel designed a large number of these aircraft. The He 46 was therefore created for the Luftwaffe for reconnaissance and liaison missions.
