Antique early 19th century French hand made copper bucket or pail

Originally used in the wine trade, this hand crafted copper bucket is formed from a rolled sheet of copper fixed firmly with copper studs. The cast iron swing handle is fitted through a rivetted iron collar at each side and the bucket is tin lined.

There is a maker's stamp to the front of the bucket which is quite faded but I can make out marks associated with wine making.

In well used antique condition, the bucket is watertight. It is slightly mis-shapen and does rock slightly but will not tip. It has dings and marks as you might expect in a well used item such as this. There is a small hole right at the rim where a rivet appears to be missing, as shown. This does not affect its use at all.

A really fantastic piece of history, I am sure it would have lots of stories to tell. It would make a superb addition to any fireside as a coal or log bucket, wine cooler or other interior design piece. It could also be used as intended as a bucket!

Approx. dimensions - 24cm dia x 35cm H / Weight 2.8kg
