CHRISTMAS SANTA CLAUS / PERE NOEL DOUBLE SIDED ART GLASS PENDANT

Double sided pendant has two images of Santa Claus, or, Pere Noel as he is known in France.

French children are visited by two different gift bringers. In some areas an angelic child called Petit Noel brings the gifts. However, in most provinces the gift bringer is Pere Noel. Pere Noel is a Santa figure in the Northern European tradition. He is taller and less chubby than the American Santa, and he wears a full length red robe. He has several characteristics that are distinctly French. In some areas of France he wears wooden clogs instead of boots. He does not say "Ho-ho-ho." Instead he cries "tra-la-la, bouli, bouili, boulah." On Christmas eve he arrives riding a donkey.

Many traditions surround the arrival of Pere Noel on Christmas eve. The large dinner called the reveillon is served. The highlight of this meal is the bunche de Noel – a cake shaped like a yule log. Great bunches of mistletoe are hung around the house, a tradition dating back to the Celts. French children end evening by leaving a snack and a glass of wine for Pere Noel to eat when he stops by to leave their presents.

This piece measures 1 inch by 1 7/8 inches.  You are only bidding on ONE pendant.  The photo shows two so you can see both sides.

The pendant has a different image on each side.  It's two pendants in one.  If it twists while you're wearing it...it still looks good.

The charm is handmade using a stained glass technique. The images are printed on high cotton content paper and set between 2 thin pieces of glass. It is fused together with a very thin layer of copper which acts as a conductor for a lead free solder combination of silver and tin. The charm is very durable but won't stand up to excessive pulling and tugging. You just have to treat it with care.

The piece comes to you on a 30 inch ball chain and you can keep it long or shorten it to whatever length suits you by snipping it with a pair of scissors.  You could also wear it on a ribbon or cord and it would be beautiful.
