ART AND LIFE / ART AND LITERATURE DOUBLE SIDED ART GLASS PENDANT

Double sided pendant shows Crane's "Art and Life" from 1907 on one side and Bouguereau's "Art and Literature" from 1867 on the other.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:   Walter Crane 1845–1915, English designer, illustrator, and painter. As a painter he is grouped with the later Pre-Raphaelites, but he is better known for his illustrations of the works of Spenser and of Hawthorne's Wonder Book and Grimm's Fairy Tales. Seeking with William Morris to ally art with everyday life, he designed textiles, glass windows, tapestries, and house decorations. Crane's interest in socialism is expressed in his cartoons for Commonweal and Justice. In 1888 he founded the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society of London.

William Adolphe Bouguereau (November 30, 1825 - August 19, 1905) was a French academic painter.

A student at the Académie Julian in Paris, his realistic genre paintings and mythological themes were exhibited in the annual exhibitions of the Paris Salon for his entire working life.  Although he fell into disregard, due perhaps to his staunch opposition to the Impressionists, there is a new appreciation for his work.

Bouguereau was married to fellow artist Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau.  He also used his influence to open many French art institutions to women for the first time, including the Academie Français.

This piece measures 1 inch by 1 7/8 inches.  You are only bidding on ONE pendant.  The photo shows two so you can see both sides.

The pendant has a different image on each side.  It's two pendants in one.  If it twists while you're wearing it...it still looks good.

The charm is handmade using a stained glass technique. The images are printed on high cotton content paper and set between 2 thin pieces of glass. It is fused together with a very thin layer of copper which acts as a conductor for a lead free solder combination of silver and tin. The charm is very durable but won't stand up to excessive pulling and tugging.  You just have to treat it with care.

The piece comes to you on a 30 inch ball chain and you can keep it long or shorten it to whatever length suits you by snipping it with a pair of scissors.  You could also wear it on a ribbon or cord and it would be beautiful.
