Main Description

This exceptional antique sterling silver coffee pot has a baluster shaped form onto four bracket style feet.

The body of this fine Victorian coffee pot is embellished with chased floral and foliate decoration accented with scroll designs.

The decoration to the body incorporates a scroll bordered, shaped cartouche surmounted by a chased decorated eagle with wings outstretched.

The cartouche displays a bright cut engraved crest of an alce-style creature*, above the contemporary engraved initials 'SSK'.

This Victorian coffee pot is fitted with a hinged hallmarked domed cover encircled with a shaped band of chased floral and leaf decoration.

The cover is surmounted with the original, large and impressive hallmarked sterling silver finial realistically modelled in the form of a gourd on foliate decoration; this finial is an exceptional piece in its own right.

The impressive ribbed C scroll handle is ornamented with a large, chased decorated single leaf design which is incorporated into the shaped thumbpiece and upper terminal.

The impressive swan necked spout is ornamented with layered leaf designs incorporating textured chased decoration to the shaped sockets and scrolling leaf designs to the lip.

This fine example of Victorian teaware is supported on four scrolling bracket style feet embellished with chased stylised leaf and scroll decoration.

This exceptional coffee pot bears the same hallmark credentials and is crafted in the same style as the teapot A2387; they would sit very well together.

* An alce is a wingless griffon; a creature commonly known to have the hindquarters of a lion and the head and talons of an eagle. In this instance the crest is a hybrid in the form of a Simurgh, with the head of a dog instead of a bird.

Condition

This Victorian coffee pot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the coffee pot and part hallmarks to the finial, handle and interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
