There are two types of voltage in voltage converters. Modified and real sine wave voltage. The difference is that with the modified sine wave, the shape of the output voltage is simulated in a staircase shape. Voltage converters with a modified sine wave are less expensive and can be used without problems for many consumer devices. However, there are exceptions that absolutely require a converter with a real sinusoidal voltage.
With televisions, for example, when used with a modified sine-wave voltage converter, stripes can form in the picture. Coffee pad machines also need a converter with a real sinusoidal voltage.
