Maurice Utrillo was a French painter known for his cityscapes who was born in Paris in 1883. His mother was the painter and artist's model Suzanne Valadon, and his father was rumored to be Renoir. Utrillo's natural talent allowed him to rise to international acclaim and he was awarded the Cross of the Legion d'honneur by the French government in 1928. He died in 1955.

This 1982 reproduction of the original 1927 print depicts a dynamic view of a Parisian intersection on the edge of Montmartre near wear Utrillo lived. At that time this area was known for it's mix of residential housing and urban gardens. The bucolic cityscape reflects the pinnacle in early twentieth century bohemian living.
