A fascinating shrub, instantly recognizable for its deep purple, trumpet shaped blooms which come, from spring until fall, in huge clusters.

They have large, 12 – 15 cm (5"-6") long, lance shaped, velvety green leaves.
Foliage has a "tropical" look and the plant is evergreen in suitable climates.
Long, bell-like, dangling clusters of up to 20, 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3 in.), tubular, deep purple flowers.
Almost exclusively grown as an ornamental.
They make useful patio shrubs for summer display or conservatory plants. they can be used as landscape plants.
They are commonly trained as standards (topiary) to control their size and shape.
Iochroma flowers attract hummingbirds (Americas only) and bees to gardens.
It is a useful, colorful screen, background planting or well adapted container plant.
As with the Brugmansias and the Daturas, it should be noted that all parts of the plant are likely toxic if ingested in any way.
